Sorting with Style
Generally at the half point of the year, I tidy up our tax receipts. By keeping our financial records in one place and orderly, I eliminate the panic and stress (experienced many times) of trying to locate a property tax bill or a particular donation receipt. My system is not complicated. Anytime we acquire a tax related receipt, it immediately goes in a set of folders (organized by category) located in one of my kitchen drawers. I know it may seem odd that these folders are located in a kitchen drawer, but I wanted to make sure that its location was as close to the entry door as possible. Since most of our receipts/bills make their way from our mailbox and our wallets, this seemed like the most appropriate place.
One aspect that keeps me at least visually inspired in up keeping this job is the stylish folders I use. With this task as boring as it is, manila folders are out. There are tons of decorative folders available out there and Sorting with Style is definitely a great place to start.
