Artist Sophie Blackall

Talk about fun, whimsy, and a tiny drop of weird – that’s what I see in Australian artist Sophie Blackall’s work.  You really must have a bit of a twisted sense of humor to fully appreciate her art.  I find it enjoyable to go through and read all of the captions written on her work because so many of they give me such a chuckle.

Her website has a section that questions if she does anything aside from illustrations.  Her response – “…Well I make my children’s lunches most days, and try to keep them in cleanish clothes, and occasionally I put on my hat and spats and seek diversion outdoors.  And in the wee hours I paint on old photographs, or stick animal parts on to old dolls”.  Too funny!
