Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week
Happy Friday my peeps! I hope you have lots of good things in store for the weekend. We will be continuing to put our main floor back together from the work that was done on our floors earlier this week. As we put things back, I want to think about what we really need to keep. It’s always good to keep the clutter in check – how does it collect so fast?
I will close out the week with some scene’s from the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week which just ended yesterday. BTW, they use to televise this event and I can’t seem to find a schedule. Does anyone know if they still put this on Style Network? or E! ?

Should anyone from New York Fashion Week ever read this, please, please send the House of Many Hues a ticket for one of those seats! I’ve tried for years to get one with no success. Not even cash will get me one. I would be forever indebted to you!

Have a fabulous weekend and we’ll see each other back here next week.

Patone 2011 Fall Color Report
Ahhhhhhh. That’s the sound of me being relieved that a new week is here! Oh what an emotional roller coaster it was last week. Last Monday, the flooring company called to let me know that our basement carpet had arrived and it was time to schedule the install. Wednesday was the chosen and highly anticipated day. They came and after 10+ hours had finally installed everything. However, about 1 hour before it was finished, my husband called me to let me know that I most likely was not going to be happy. WHAT? How could I not be happy? Apparently, not enough carpet had been ordered and they – get this – had to cut and piece in carpet remnants. In addition, it was not stretched very well and so there were many rather lumps in the carpet. My heart sank into my stomach. I immediately called the store and explained what my husband had described. I further added that they would not be paid until I could see the results. One look told me that my husband was right. It wasn’t acceptable.
Early Friday morning, the flooring company sent two people to inspect the results and they agreed – bad install. We will find out this week what they decide to do to correct this. I’m sure the $3,000 that we owe them will help speed things along.
I don’t often write about fashion but its close ties to home decor cannot be ignored and so I feel compelled to talk about it today. Last week the Fall 2011 New York Fashion week ended and just like my week, it too had its ups and downs (you will get my bad joke in a moment!). I have always wondered how high stiletto heels can get (personally my max is 4″) until balance becomes an issue. I think that Christian Siriano has determined the limit of the high heel as several of the shows models tripped and one even came tumbling down due to their aggressively high platform heels. Aside from this mishap, the show ended with lots of beautiful fashion and inspiration. This brings me to the Patone color report. Patone is the world leader on color tends and inspirations. They have released their color forecast for Fall 2011 – take a look at the colors below…

I am loving all of the colors except maybe the purple (Phlox) in the color bar above. For some reason I have never been a fan of this shade of purple but I’ll try and keep an open mind.

Anthropologie + Leifsdottir
Leifsdottir, the sister brand of Anthropologie , recently launched a shoe collection. I tend to be a boot girl but these shoes really have me thinking about expanding my (rather small) shoe collection…

Balenciaga
I saw this shoe by Balenciaga yesterday and simply wanted to slip them on and go dancing. Can you guess why I’m in love? It can’t be because of the felt ruffles or ocean colors…

Recycled Fabrics
Good morning blog friends! Did you have a fabulous weekend? I hope it wasn’t filled with lots of work like mine. From bringing the ceramic pots in the garage to covering up the outdoor patio furniture, there were so many winter preparations to take care of (and I’m still not done!). But even with all the work, I was able to take a moment and do a little reading (very little) and came across a most wonder seller, EnlightenedPlatypus who makes dream coats. And are they ever! These coats are made with recycled clothing with focus put on the hour glass design, zephyr skirts, and of course, lots of whimsy.

Love, love that hood! These are so hot that her last collection of dream coats all sold in less than a minute.

MoMA Store
Cold, wet, rainy. That’s my description for today’s weather. It may sound a little crazy, but I kind of liked it. I’m ready to bring out my Fall gear and put them to use. I have a few fun umbrella’s and tons of scarfs. In fact, I may have a slight addition to buying scarfs. I love the warmth it gives my neck and the ease of accessorizing an outfit with one. You could be wearing a plain shirt and an even more dull pair of pants – but throw on a fun scarf and suddenly it doesn’t look so blah. These scarfs and umbrellas from MoMA Store are just my kind of fun!

1.Turquoise Flower Scarf, 2. Blue Dots Scarf, 3. Confetti Scarf, 4. Sky Umbrella, 5. Color Wheel Stick Umbrella.
I’m thinking that it might not be so hard to make #1 and #3.

Weddings
This upcoming month will mark my 6th wedding anniversary! While we had been engaged for awhile, we finalized the wedding date in July of 2004. Our decision was to marry in October…of the same year – leaving us just 3 1/2 months to put a wedding together! Surprisingly, despite the limited planning time, everything went very smoothly and was 90% stress free. We couldn’t have chosen a better time to get married as it was the height of the Fall color change in our area.
So with all this swirling in my mind today, I’ve got wedding dresses, cakes, and decor on the mind. I started entertaining my thoughts by checking out Lazaro’s bridal gowns – the designer I happened to use for my wedding dress. Their designs seem to contain that bit of whimsy I love while also maintaining a level of elegance. Here is one sample from their Fall 2010 collection.

Wedding favors can also be a challenge. What to buy, how to display, and so on. Love this idea from Martha Stewart showcasing wedding favors on one table. Only potential worry is that some guests could take more than one favor, so you may have to factor in a few additional.

More and more brides are thinking green as they consider the products and services they use and it’s impacting on the environment. A great book to checkout is Green Wedding, by Mireya Navarro. Mireya discusses how couples can achieve their dream wedding and still be green.

Love weddings? Here are some great wedding blogs to consider:
1. Green Wedding Shoes – Lots of wonderful wedding galleries, DIY projects, and resources.
2. The Wedding Chicks - This wedding blog is about “…everything new, classic, funky, hip and just plain fun for weddings“.
3. Style Me Pretty – Lots of bridal inspirations showcasing real weddings. Checkout the Bridal Community tab for lots of fabulous ideas.
4. Ruffled – This blog showcases the vintage inspired bride. Along with great articles, you’ll find a section on DIY Projects and Wedding Templates.

Nest
In my area, as the season begins to change, we have been experiencing cool mornings, warm afternoons, and windy evenings. I have been taking advantage of mornings and evenings to open the windows and let the crisp fresh air in. As a child growing up, my mom would open all the windows every Sunday to air the house out – even in the dead of winter. In Europe, where my mother is from, this seems to be common practice. So for today, I encourage you to open a window, sit back with your favorite magazine, and enjoy some fresh air – regardless of where you live!
Most likely because it’s getting cooler, I’m loving these little bits of orange items from Nest. You will most likely only have to deal with this obsession of mine until October. Ok, maybe November.
